Lesson 9, Faith Class, I think we got through, well, I listened to the tape a little bit here. I want to just start at question 5 again. Who is the only person that knows the things of God? Easy answer. The Holy Spirit. It's more than that. The whole Godhead knows, and that's all. Let's see here. I have it here.
What does it say in 1 Corinthians 2.11? It gives us the answer. Anybody have that or I can read it.
1 Corinthians 2.11 For who among men knows the thoughts of man except the Spirit of man which is in him?
Even so, the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. So, the answer is the Spirit of God. Yes, it's a triune God or triune head with the Father, the Son, and the Spirit, but the Scripture says no one knows the thoughts except the Spirit of God.
Okay, so the Holy Spirit is the one. So, if we want to know the things of God, we must be given what? The Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit. So, if the Holy Spirit is the only one who knows the things of God, how are we to know the things of God? We have to have the Holy Spirit.
Okay, so that leads into question six, where I think we actually were ending last week, or we may have just touched on it a little bit. So, why did He give us His Spirit? It's given in 1 Corinthians 2, 12. And I'll read that. And all mine are out of the New American Standard. 1 Corinthians 2, verse 12. Now we have received not the Spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God. Okay? So, first the verse says that we have received the Spirit of God.
So, for you Greek people, what is that tense usually? Aorist tense. It's aorist tense in the Greek, which is in the indicative mood. So the aorist tense means, and the indicative means what? It's possible. It's probable. It's a fact. So what does this verse tell you first and foremost? What's the fact? We have. have, okay, past tense, we have received. So when you believe, one of the things you receive immediately upon believing about the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus is the Holy Spirit.
Each and every one. Does it say anyone is excluded? Only you who have master's degrees? Only you who are wealthy? Only you who are poor? Everybody receives it. That's a real comfort. Do you understand that? Each one of you has the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Do you know that? Yeah. So, as I started going in this whole class on faith, that's one of the things with the Holy Spirit.
It comes down to faith. The things of God. The reality. Remember our definitions up here about faith? Reality. That's the reality. You, by faith, understand you have received the Holy Spirit. It's real. It isn't a made-up thing. It isn't a maybe, an if, or anything like that.
You have received the Holy Spirit. So, if you put your trust in the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ, you have the Spirit of God indwelling you. This verse is talking about the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. You have received it. Fact. No question about it. If you believe, you have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
With that, so we all have that, what does this verse say? What is the purpose of the Holy Spirit? It's indwelling us. Is that just so we have happy feelings? That we have the warm and fuzzies all the time? What does this verse say? So we'll know the things that are freely given to us. The things that are freely given to us. Okay? So, it's that little verse, that. So that's the purpose. That what? That we freely receive. That we may know the things freely given to us by God. So again, we all have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. For what purpose? Is He there again for warm and fuzzy snow? So that we may know the things of God. All this lesson is on the things of God. If you haven't, you know, I think it's not the top of the lesson about things. We're learning about the things of God.
So, we're now told how we know those things of God is by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. That's the purpose. It's specific in Scripture that the Holy Spirit is to indwell us for that purpose that we may know the things of God, the facts of God. Again, I think that's real important. Again, we're in the faith class. Faith is, again, on the basic essence of it, doesn't have anything to do with us. It's the reality, the substance of the things of God.
And we'll get into, we're kind of, this is the process of how we know those things, but we'll get a little bit more into what those things are. But I think it's critical that we first and foremost know that the way we know these things is not just by reading about them only, it's by the Holy Spirit telling us, letting us know what those things are. Because can you read a book, get the facts, but I can read a book on how to design a bridge. Would you trust the bridge I just went over that I built for you if I just read the book?
You're laughing. I'm a civil engineer, P.E. Oh, by the way, thank you for praying for Nick and his test. He made it through relatively unscathed. He won't know it. We don't know the results for months, but at least the survival rate was through the test. He was able to drive home.
That's the important thing after all that. So again, you know facts, but who really in the believer's life, it's the Holy Spirit to what? Convince and convict us of those things of God. And this verse just tells us that every one of us has that. There's no exclusions. Everybody has the indwelling. That's a fact. In a past tense. It's occurred.
So in God's sovereignty and in God's grace and in God's love and in His mercy, God gives us His Spirit so that we know the things of God that have been prepared for us before the foundation of the world that have now been uncovered and unveiled to us through the Holy Spirit. So He's given us the Spirit of God to know these things. That's the purpose. So, again, we have lots of things that we deal with, and we'll get to a whole list that's on the back of your sheet. We'll touch on those, about those things. But the process is, the Holy Spirit is the one who reveals those things, so we may know the things of God. Okay, which is comforting. I don't need to rely upon myself and my little engineering brain to figure this stuff out. It is the Holy Spirit convicting and convincing us of these truths.
And again, when I started, you know, Mike and I were talking about what class to do in this faith, I really hit on this. Everything is based on faith. Everything we deal with is based on faith. And again, I think I started in one of the first lessons I taught. And it kind of just shocked me to see, you know, I'm a big grace guy, you know, grace poster child. I love to talk about grace, God's grace, and the unmerited, unlimited blessings and all that.
But that's all fine and good. But you've got to have faith to believe that. You know, what comes before grace is understanding that. That is true. Understanding. Yeah. One of the great parts about this is the Holy Spirit is the one who convinces us and convicts us. He's the one who's working in your life to reveal that. And that's good because it's not just me trying to figure this out. It's the Holy Spirit indwelling me, convincing me of these things.
And that's why all the things we go through, like we talked with Mary and some of those other things that go on. The understanding that he's in control of all things, he loves us, and he's teaching us. And all these things that go on, I just take them as learning experiences.
What do you want me to learn? Why? I may not understand why, but I just want to learn. And in every circumstance, even when I think I did something stupid, Well, he's teaching me in that stupidity. I said the wrong thing. Well, guess what? He's teaching you about that. But he's also probably teaching the three people that you talk to.
I just use it that if he's in control of all things, and the Holy Spirit's whole job is to convince and convict us of these truths, he's using everything in our lives for that purpose. Because he's indwelling us. Like I said, going with this class, when I did the search just on faith, faith came up twice as many times as grace did. And again, how important is that? Because you can't understand His grace if you don't believe it or understand it. And that just goes into our personal faith, one of the four basics, the essence, the faith, personal faith, and principle.
But that's one of those things. If you don't believe this, If you don't believe, through faith, the reality of God, that you're under grace, what good is it? I mean, you're still under it. God is still, you know, it's not negating it. It's just you don't receive the benefit from it if you don't believe that.
And so, I mean, it comes down, all these things come down to faith. And I said, when I do my reading in the morning, you know, I can't tell you how many times I come over, well, there's faith again. there's faith again. Wow, and faith. Faith, it just always comes up.
Because if you don't understand it from God, and it's true, it's a reality, is it becoming a fabric of your life in Christ? So, anyway, getting on to this, how do we take ownership of the known things of God? Okay, so I'll read 1 Corinthians 2, 12 and verse 13. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.
There are two no's when you look at these verses in 11. And there's two different ones. It's the Oida and Gnosko. And there's two different ways. One's factual, total, and I'll get it, and Wanda, your favorite, Zodiates. I never Zodiate. It always does with me. I have to break down the words.
The contrast between Gnosko and Oida is that the first often suggests an acquired knowledge, but Oida suggests intuitive knowledge. That is, I know what I know because I am what I am. Man, for example, does not have an intuitive knowledge or instinct that an animal has because he is not an animal, and vice versa. In the same sense, man cannot know as God knows because he is not God.
This is made clear in John 8.55. Yet ye have not known Gnosko him, but I know him, O Ida, know him. So Christ knows God because he's one of the Godhead. You don't know him because you're not of God. So it basically explains the two different things.
So how do we take ownership of the known things of God? Who is the only one who knows the things of God? The Holy Spirit. Who is indwelling us? Okay, so we take ownership of these prepared things of God by what? Faith. By resting in the uncovered realities, those things of God through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
So, to know these things, it is, we own them by faith, by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, convicting and convincing us of these things. Okay? Clear on that? How do we take ownership? It's by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, convicting and convincing us of these truths. Again, going back to the things of God are reality, it's certain, it's true. Okay? Questions? I know we're getting kind of deep in the weeds on some of these, but... Okay, question eight. Would you say that the things of God are the things of Christ? Yes, yes, yes. Yes. Okay, John 16, 12 through 15. I'll read it. I have many, and look at the other thing that's kind of amazing is how many things, I should do a search on things, how many things are, you know, when we're to know the things.
Christ speaking, I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak, and He will disclose to you what is to come.
He will glorify Me, for He will take of Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine, and therefore I said He takes of Mine and will disclose it to you. So, the question, would you say the things of God or the things of Christ? It's very explicit here. He will glorify me for he will take of mine, the Holy Spirit, and he will disclose it to you. All things that are the Father are mine. Therefore, I said that he takes of mine and will disclose that to you. So, no question, the things of God or things about Christ? No? Yes? Maybe? More coffee? You guys are really quiet today.
I think all this, the convincing and convicting and displaying of truth and stuff is done spiritually by the spirit. And it's not the way that your brain works normally. that it depends on. Well, you know, I think that's a good point in that things of the spirit and things of the flesh.
And we, you know, we now through our death, burial and resurrection, we have a new position. We are in Christ. So we have, we're a new creature in Christ. And that, that is the one that the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is working on and conforming us to his image. We all struggle with the flesh. We haven't killed the flesh. We have reckoned ourselves dead, right? It's rooted to it. So, as Mike says, you know, the music starts playing, his feet dance, you know. It's, you know, many times when, you know, why? You know, if I'm a new creature in Christ, Why did I cut that guy off in traffic? Why did I yell at him? Why did I not act as I am in Christ?
Because the flesh still indwells us. We're still in the flesh. We just reckon ourselves dead to it. And that's the real, when we get to it, it's understanding daily our crucifixion. That's daily we understand that we are to reckon ourselves dead unto the flesh, the world, all that. A lot of times that creeps back in. That's, I think, the learning experience and the growth, the maturity in Christ is realizing how much self is still with you, the old flesh.
I think the hardest thing for a believer to do is to understand that the best thing that happened to you was to be crucified, the flesh crucified. There is nothing good in your flesh. Nothing. And that the best thing that could have happened was to have yourself co-crucified with Christ. Our trouble is, the old man is still going, hey, no, I'm worth it. I can do a lot of things. Just let me do it. Let me do it. You got some things for me to do? My spiritual push-ups? I'll do them for you. It's the flesh that keeps popping up.
It's hard to understand that it is nothing good in our flesh. And when we understand that God has condemned it, has done. Why are we trying to work with it, make it better? One of the things I think that teaching is that Christians can sin, but they don't have to. Yeah, but we don't have to at all. We don't have to, we don't have to listen to that. Spiritual growth, I think, is understanding more of that.
You're still going to do it. There's never going to be a perfect time until we get rid of this shell and step into eternity. We're still going to be fighting it. I think the growth part of being a believer is recognizing that more and not submitting yourself, walking in the flesh, but walking in the Spirit. I think as you understand that, as you grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, those things, what's that hymn, you know, as the things of earth grow strangely dim, I think you start realizing that these are things of the flesh.
My focus is on Christ, and we'll get, in fact we're just going to get into this, in Colossians 3.1, where are we supposed to set our sights?
On things above. And where? Where Christ is seated. Okay? If our focus is there, we've worried about the world and everything, what happens here. I mean, if I'm focused on Him and knowing who I am in Christ, the things here become not as important. And then... That's still upsetting. Yeah, it is. There'll be times. I think the thing is, though, that... Right now. Well, you know, I really think that things are being, you know, if you understand that He's using those for His purposes, it's not by accident, where you're at and what you're doing.
All those people that are killed, all of that, God created everything. What do we learn in Colossians 1? He's in control. He holds all things together. So no matter what goes on in the world, He knows about it. And more importantly, He allows it to happen for His purposes.
And for the life of me, I don't understand all the purposes He has. I can't. I just rely and rest in the fact that He does. And so I don't understand all the things that happen to me or why, but I just rest in the fact that He does. And He loves me with a love that can't be separated. An eternal love. It gets me through anything. It may not be pleasant. There are obviously things that hurt. But underlying is a rest and a peace that only He can provide, which we'll get into in a little bit. Things of God are all disclosed in the Bible.
That's where we know about those. His word. Yeah. His word. Yeah, we just absorb it out of thin air. We have to have something. Yeah, you know, what's Verne saying? Facts and tracts and faith will fall over the caboose or whatever. I murdered it, but whatever it is, you know, it's faith in the facts and the caboose raised to the facts. I don't know. Anyway, whatever that is. Well, do you know what it is? Yeah, okay. Don't give me grief.
Whatever that picture he puts up, you know, it's the facts and it's the Holy Spirit convincing us of those facts. That we understand and rest in those facts. You know, it's like also, you know, go back to Romans 1, you know, we get into the things where Romans 1, everybody says, you know, we realize through, nobody's without excuse. because in nature we see God's hand. Does that say anything about Christ? Could you just look at that beautiful sunset that we have, millions of stars, Mike's favorite, when I'm scuba diving and I see the reef and the fish. Does that tell me anything about Christ?
No. He was a creator. He put it all together. What do those verses tell us? that there's a God and he's powerful and... He's in charge. He's in charge. It doesn't say anything about Christ. What that says, men are without excuse that there is a God and he's a powerful God.
He created all this. But you still, the point being is you still have to know the facts about Christ. And that's what we learn in, you know, in the Word. You know, we all know that there's a God. We're all without excuse. That's what Romans 1 says. And that there's a powerful God. But that doesn't tell you anything about Christ. You need the facts about who Christ is and what He did for you.
And it's the Holy Spirit's job to present those and convince us of those things. Yeah. You know, we talked about the peace that passes through understanding. It isn't that in our lives things are so peaceful and God makes everything peaceful. It's just that we know this thing about God that He is in charge. And as insane sometimes as the activities in the world, he's in charge, we can trust him.
Yeah, and that's what I said, there's an underlying piece that surpasses all understanding. No matter what goes on, I said my ism, God never says, oops, miss that. And that's the vision that comes from Colossians 1. He's holding all things together. So, whatever transpires, you know, it's when you see it on the news, all the Christians being beheaded and all that, you know, you really, wow.
But I also, I've used this example, you know, you hear these people who, you know, on a plane, The cat ran out and they had to chase the cat down and do this and then they missed the flight and then the flight crashes. And God was wonderful in saving them. What about all the Christians on the plane?
Did he not love them? He wanted them. He wasn't ready. It's like, God loved you, but all those other poor Christians on there, he didn't love them. No, he knew everything about them. And I think about that. He's in control of all these things. When those Christians that we see are being beheaded, it's horrifying. But God knew about it. And guess what? That was the second best day of their life. They get to go home. If you put it in that perspective, they're home now. They're face to face. They don't have to put up with this garbage anymore.
And Paul who wrote the book of Romans said his head cut off. Yeah, I mean, most of the apostles were beheaded or martyred. Paul wrote the books about peace and you can trust God and everything else. And his head was cut off. Oh yeah, I know. Don't tell me I know. amazing faith that Paul had that helps me to not be afraid. Right.
Now this is going to be a rabbit trail. There's this friend, a woman that I know where I believe and she said she doesn't believe in God because how could he send people to hell? And so then that brought up something that I know there are scriptures and we talked about this in our bible study, but where is the scripture about the angels being sent, Jesus sending, was that book for You know, Jesus sent Satan and he sent them to hell. Well, God did. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. God. Yeah. God threw him out of. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Satan looked at his great personality and his great looks and said, I'm great. Yeah. And he and a bunch got thrown out. I don't know where, do you know? Ezekiel. Is it Ezekiel? Ezekiel. Yeah. I don't know exactly. Okay, that's all I wanted to know. You know, and I think the thing is, back going to Romans 1, everybody knows God is present. There is a God.
And then what does it say, too? For those who basically reject that, he gives them over. He says, if you're going to reject, give you over to your own lusts and all these different things. And so, you know, Mike says, and I find it hard to believe, but the more I look, you know, those people who reject Christ are going to stand in His face at the judgment and say, I choose hell. How does that happen? They have rejected him. And it doesn't matter, they've rejected everything. The Holy Spirit's tried every, you know, it is his desire that all men come to know Christ. So, you know, they are rejecting him.
You have a Lamborghini in the garage. and somebody's trying to hand you the keys, and you're rejecting them. You have the greatest gift ever. You're really hung up on cars. Well, no, that's right. Whatever you want. You have the palatial estate. What do you want? You have the best meal ever. You have whatever. It's there for the taking, and you don't take it. It's the greatest free gift ever.
And they've rejected it, and they will reject it through eternity. But she doesn't understand. Yeah, I know. I just wanted to tell her not to be offensive. Look at Romans 1. Basically they reject it. Everybody knows without excuse. An atheist is just denying what he knows is true in his heart. Everybody knows.
That's what the scripture says. And then if you reject it, then it gives them over. You know, to your lust. That's in Romans 1. Yes, but she doesn't understand why there is hell. And so hell was made, not for us, but for... That's the question. I'm trying to get that clear in my mind. God made hell for... Those who rejected. For the fallen angels and Satan.
And they are not confined there at the moment. So that is all to come. So that location of hell is a permanent dwelling place that is accessed by each choice of an angel and a human being. So the Lord is confining to a place of rejection. For the fallen angels exist now in humans as well. It was not originally designed for them. They were just thrown out of heaven. Yeah. They will be confined there. Those that have rejected the Lord's gracious offer will choose to take residence with those fallen angels.
I have a friend from high school from years ago. I've been trying to share Jesus with her for a long time. And I give her the words of God that could, you know, only God's words can help her believe and understand. But she'll write me back and say, read the Bible five times, it never made sense, it's all a bunch of baloney, and please stop talking about Jesus.
There's some people, and I'm still working on her, and I'm trying to lull her into the kingdom. The thing I've got to remember is not Our job, you know, to do it. We're to be a vessel. We're not the ones. It's the Holy Spirit's job to do the thing. We're to be used freely. I need to talk to the Holy Spirit. Okay, but thank you. Question 8.
Would you say the things of God are the things of Christ? Through the John 16 verses, we said that they are. Again, it came up to all things and all that. So God prepared things, shown to us by the Holy Spirit, are the things of Christ. Christ's things are all things of the Father. Look at what verse 15 says, all things that the Father has are mine. So all the things of God that we've looked at in Hebrews 1 come out of the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, because all that the Father has are His.
And I want to go back to the Colossians 3 verses. Again, I think that's It points to that again. Colossians 3, 1 and 2. Therefore, if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above. Where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above and not on the things that are on earth. So, where do we find the things? In those verses, where do we find those things? Set your mind on things above. where Christ is seated.
So, in Christ, in heaven, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. That's where the things of God, we look at Christ and we understand that the things, because everything that the Father has, He's given to Christ. And then what do we have from the Holy Spirit? He can only say the things that were given to Him by God the Father and Christ. It's the only thing He can say.
Yeah. Is it not so much that the things are in heaven, but it's the fact that the things are in Christ and Christ is in heaven? That's my, it's a person. You know, and again, if you know who we are in Christ, if we know about Christ, who do we know about? Ourselves in Christ. So our focus is on Christ. And that's what these verses say. Set your mind on things above where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. That's where we know the things, because we're looking at a person. Okay, I've got a follow-up question then. Okay. No, you only get one. Okay, I get one. Isn't that the way the press corps does it? You only get one.
If Christ is in heaven, which he is, if Christ is in us, is it that Christ is in us or that the Holy Spirit is in us? The Holy Spirit is in us. So Christ is not in us. Our life is his life. Galatians 2.20. My life is Christ's life. The Holy Spirit is the one that indwells us. It gives us that life. Clear? Questions? Is that kind of a stringent thing where it will say the spirit of Christ is in you? I think sometimes they talk about interchange with the spirit of Christ and the Holy Spirit. Is that true?
I think it's a choice of words used on that whole concept. I agree. I think it's three person, one in essence. So they share essence. So that's really where you want to try to avoid confusing terminologies and just get back to There's the Father, the Virgin, the Father, the Son, the Spirit. They are unique in person, but one in essence. There's no dividing them in essence. They all serve a different purpose in person, but in essence they are the same. Well that's where you also kind of follow on as far as the confusing part is. They are distinct. One triune God, which the best way I always do it is water, because I'm a water guy. Liquid, vapor, and ice. Solid, fluid, vapor. Three different things, all the same, water. But they're three different forms. They're all water. That's the best way I can put that in.
When we pray, do we pray to the Holy Spirit? No. Are you to pray to Christ? No. Who do you pray to? The Father. Oh, the Father. In the name of Jesus, through the power of the Holy Spirit. So we don't pray to the, you know, they're not interchangeable, you know, they're one essence. But there are three distinct entities. So, again, that's where, you know, trying to bring that up is we don't pray to the Holy Spirit. We pray to the Father.
In the name of the Lord Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit. OK, we went through this long time. But you can say, I mean, the Holy Spirit lives in us. So you can say, Holy Spirit, help me. Pray to the Father for the Holy Spirit. Do you mean all these times I've been saying, Holy Spirit help me, He didn't hear me? No. And remember what the Holy Spirit's job is. To help me.
To take your prayers and present them to the Father. If there was a grading system on my prayer, I'd be all over the board. But I know that the Holy Spirit takes those and presents it to the Father. Many of mine are self-focused. Again, don't worry about how you pray. He just wants you to pray. And the Holy Spirit is one. But the form that is laid out in the Scripture is, we're praying to the Father in the name of the Son through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Yikes. We're going to get on to, again, so the things are found in Christ in heaven at the right hand of the Father. So, where are we positionally seated? In Christ. In Christ, with Him. So, what do we see in Christ if we have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who knows all the things of the Father as revealed by Christ? So what do we see in Christ?
We're to set our minds on things above where Christ is seated. Turn your sheet over. These are just some of the things that we see in Christ. I just busted out some of these. You can look up verses for each and every one of these. I just kind of went through some of them. Christ's life is my life. Just what we were talking about.
Galatians 2.20 I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life which I now live, I live in the flesh, by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.
Christ's desires are my desires, I've told Colossians 3.1 and 2. Again, therefore, if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on the things of earth. So if you're focused on Christ as your desire is on the earth, it's what Christ desires.
3. Christ's glory is my glory, John 17, 23. The glory which you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as we are one. Again, Christ speaking, the glory which you have given me speaking to the Father, Christ speaking. I have given to them that they may be one, just as we are one. And then Christ's will is my will, Christ's mind is my mind. I had 1 Corinthians 2, 14 and 15.
But a natural man does not accept the things of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
And then Christ's obedience is my obedience. Christ's righteousness is my righteousness. I had 1 Corinthians 1, 30 and 31. By his doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, just as it is written, let him who boasts boast in the Lord. But by his doing, who became to us wisdom from God and the righteousness.
And then Christ's abode is my abode. Ephesians 2, 4-7 But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ, by grace you have been saved, and raised us up with him, and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the ages to come he might show the surpassing riches of his grace and kindness towards us in Christ Jesus. is my rest. Matthew 11, 28 and 29.
Come to me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble at heart and you will find rest for your souls. That's an important one. Can anything on this earth or anybody on this earth give us rest? It's only in Christ. If you're looking for rest, it's only in Christ. I just got a couple more that we can get. Christ image is my image.
Romans 8.29. For those whom he foreknew, he also predestined to become conformed to the image of his Son.
You can also look up 1 Corinthians 15.49 or 2 Corinthians 3.18.
All these things. Let me get down to just one other one, then we'll stop. You know, all these other things. Christ things are my things. Christ's love is my love. All these ones. I want to get down to just some verses I really like in 22. Christ's peace is my peace. So John 14, 26, 27.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you. So again, peace comes from Christ. The world cannot give you peace.
Or 2 Thessalonians 3.16. Now may the Lord of peace himself continually grant you peace in many circumstances, every circumstance.
2 Thessalonians 3.16. Now may the Lord of peace himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance. And then the last one is Philippians 4, 6, and 7.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God." Okay, so, again, he wants us to come with anything and everything. He doesn't say the wording or whatever. Just come, be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And what? And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension. will what? Guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Man, should you go to Him in prayer? Is His peace your peace? These verses say He's given you His peace in every circumstance. But we have to do that by what? Faith. Believe it. Alright, we need to close. Heavenly Father, we thank you again. We thank you for these truths again. We thank you again for all these things, things of God.
And we just realize the things of God are in Christ. And Father, you've given him all things and he has given us these things. As we see, we look not to the earth, not to the world, but we look to Christ who is our peace and who is our rest, who is everything is from you, from Christ, we receive through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. And again, we thank you for, again, it's not just left up to us, but it's left up to your Word and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to convince and convict us of these truths, these absolute wonderful truths that we, as we understand them, we will find rest and peace because you promised us that. You have given us that in every circumstance. So we just rest and relax in that and realize again, it's through our faith in the facts of God, the certainty, the reality of the things of God that we find this peace and rest. Father, we just pray again just for Vern in the next meeting, again just to present the Word and prepare our hearts to receive it. Father, we do all these things in the name of your Son, the Lord Jesus. Amen.
